Spam eBay messages from Asian and Chinese sellers

Ebay don't appear to give a flying fig about this problem.
We get about 20 messages per day from China, and this makes it hard to find our genuine customers amongst all the ebay sponsered rubbish.
What little I have learned, I will do my best to help other sellers who are no doubt being spammed to high heaven just like we are.
When you check you ebay messages, look out for user ID's such as wersocj10239349 or 38748956956 for instance, they are not proper user names that have invloved any thought whatever.

Why do leaves ruin my Sky picture in the Summer?

When we get Sky installed we read through the instructions (or we should anyway ;-) and one of the things that we notice is that bad weather can affect the picture quality. The guide mentions such things as heavy rain, snow, and high winds as likely to give trouble and cause "blockiness" or even no signals at certain times.
That's understandable but why do we get so many calls about poor pictures in late spring and early summer when there isn't a cloud in the sky and the temperature is in the '80's?
The answer? trees, leaves and water vapour!
When the Sky engineer installed your dish all those years ago he may have had to place it below eaves height, perhaps in the back garden, especially around here where so many homes are in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, or are in National Parks, or are on Listed Buildings. Here the installer tries to put the dish where it won't upset the local planners or the neighbours (who still in some cases think that Sky dishes "radiate death rays into space")! Often the best place is near ground level just above window height where tiny hands can't touch, but this problem can apply to ALL installations.
So when the dish was installed it had a clear line of sight path to the Astra satellite 28degrees East of South and (from the UK) about 30degrees up in the sky. Unfortunately trees, bushes, and even flowers grow, and grow. Eventually something will get between the dish and the sky and here the problems start.
Often, in the afternoon or evening the pictures on some channels will suddenly turn "blocky". The reason for this is often that the signals have suddenly reached a threshold where the receiver can't "work out" what it is seeing. This is a major problem with digital reception. The system chuggs along with the data being just good enough to give a satisfactory picture until a threshold is reached and the receiver suddenly just gives up. Notice certain channels will be affected while others seem perfect. So a common reaction is "All the pictures come from the same place so it CAN'T be Aunt Ethel's rose bush". Well unfortunately it CAN, and usually IS!
The reason being that while all the pictures come from the same point in the sky they do NOT all come from the same satellite and even then some are transmitted in one "waveband" and some in another, also some are "vertical" and some "horizontal". Just as some television aerials have their rods one way and osme others have them the other.
In many areas the BBC channels are the strongest while in other areas (really out of the intended range of services, such as Spain) the BBC are very much the weakest. this is because the BBC use a different satellite to many other channels.
All Sky receivers give a Signal Test where the receiver shows two bar graphs. One giving Signal Strength and the other Signal Quality. So which is the most important? Surprising ly it's the quality that is far more important. The receiver can compensate for low levels of signal by amplifying but as soon as the quality drops below a certain level then the poor old receiver just gives up!
So the cure is to chop the offending leaves off so that the quality rises again, and it can just be a few leaves that cause all the trouble, or if cutting will cause a family outcry the next time that Aunty visits at least tie the leaves well out of the way.
There is one other point that must be made and this is the hardest thing to

Sold as seen, as is, no returns

Many rogue traders use these terms when selling something that is duff, defective etc...
These terms have NO legal standing what so ever.
'Sold as seen' is innapropriate unless youve visually inspected the item which is unlikely, even then it only have moral and pehaps ethical standing, not legal. Many people put this on reciepts when they sell something unaware that it means absolutley nothing.
Importantly though if something is advertised correctly i.e "item doesnt turn on" and "sold as seen" then you cant return it if it doesnt turn on, because this was specified. However if it doesnt turn on AND it's severly physically damaged but this isnt specified then you have a legal right to return it because of the physical damage.
The same applies for 'As Is'. This is a popular abbreiviation for 'Sold as is advertised'. Same as above really, if the damage is specified acuratley then it would be hard to return the item.
If an item has very little description and simply says 'sold as is' or 'sold as seen' but they've not made any effort to list the damage you can still return it. Damage needs to be specified to a reasonable extent.
I decided to write this after a seller advertised an Apple Imac that I bought and later had toruble with when it arrived. The ad showed a photo of a working computer. The ad said that it turned on but other than that he knew nothing about it therefore sold 'as is'.
Upon arrival It didnt even turn on, I called him and he said 'oh well I said sold as is'. But he specifically said it turns on and it doesnt. Julian Lyons you know who you are (his dad owns Legends nightclub in Manchester therfore he thnks he can do whatever he wants including hanging up on me, ignoring paypals square trade emails and refusing to pay)
WHAT TO DO???
Dont return the item straight away, get the seller to agree to your refund terms first which may include return postage and packing, get this in writing, an email is fine. You may want to take photos of the damage.
(Before you return the item)
Call you local court and ask for a small claims pack. This cost nothing. Fill it in with the sellers/buyers details. You will need to attach copies of emails and the advert, part of the form will ask you to give details.
Photocopy everything and send it to the person as a warning that if they dont co-operate within a reasonable time period that you will send the form off. Tell them that this will incur a further

eBay Express launch could benefit small businesses

eBay UK has announced the launch of a new service later this year, aimed at helping small businesses compete with larger online and offline stores.
Unlike the current main eBay UK site, the Express version is intended to be a "virtual high street" with goods sold at a fixed price, rather than via traditional auctions. In return, companies using the service will have to meet a variety of service levels, such as guaranteed delivery times and standard refund and return policies.
Although many small business retailers may already have an online presence, eBay points out that the new service will help smaller stores access millions of potential customers, where many small companies find it hard to drive customers to their own websites.
eBay Express has already been rolled out in the USA.Unlike the main eBay auction sites, customers can buy multipile items from multiple sellers and pay once for everything, including shipping.
There is no doubt that the new system offers a simple alternative to eBay, cutting out the need to bid and wait for items. For small business owners, this could also be an opportunity to access a large customer base without the need to pay expensive online marketing costs.
We will report further when eBay Express (UK) is due to launch here.
PLEASE VOTE YES FOR THIS GUIDE SO THAT THIS GUIDE BECOMES MORE VISIBLE TO OTHERS SO THAT EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT EBAY IS DOING !!!
THANKS

On Digital / ITV Digital Freeview Boxes

Greetings!
Freeview has been around for a few years now, initially it was launched in the UK as On Digital and the notorious ITV Digital - infamous for nearly destroying the football league through lost advertising revenues etc. A by product of these early forays into Digital Television is that there are now a great number of obsolete On Digital and ITV Digital receivers around. These devices look rather like a Sky Digibox / Satellite Receiver. In fact they can still be used today to receive freeview tv broadcasts without having to pay any subscription or needing a viewing card. The most common models are made by Pace, Philips, Pioneer and Nokia. Unlike modern freeview receivers the On Digital / ITV Digital receivers are 'full-sized', i.e, they are the same size as a vhs video recorder / dvd player etc. Often you will see the old On Digital / ITV

Juan Honeste's Fakes Guide: Pioneer HDJ 1000 Headphones

Welcome to the definitive guide to spotting fake Pioneer HDJ 1000 Headphones.
Suffice to say, there are loads and loads of cheap and really nasty replicas out there. Of the 18 auctions for this product active at the time of writing, 8 were almost certainly counterfeit.
Aside from the usual tell-tale sign of 'too good to be true' pricing, it's really easy to tell with this product - there are really obvious physical differences between the fakes and the genuine article which you can clearly see from photos. If there's no photo, don't buy them whatever you do. And personally, I wouldn't touch anything shipping direct from the Far East at bargain prices even if they look like the Real McCoy

Erasing your data prior to selling your goods.

This relates to lots of high-tech items, not just the obvious. The obvious is of course hard disk drives (HDD) on your PC and laptop. This is easy, download one of the many freeware 'eraser' programs available on the net, just use your favourite search engine to search for 'free data eraser'. Most of these utilities will overwrite your data either 1, 3, 7, or the highest Gutmann level at 35 passes, not only do they erase the data, but they write a load of jumbled nonsense in it's place, making it economically impossible to read any of your data. But as the price of HDD's is so low these days, it would be sensible to remove the HDD and put a hammer to it. But don't forget the not so obvious, sell a digital camera on eBay, and it could be very embarrassing if the buyer undeletes the pics of your other half (or you) in a compromising pose. Ideally, connect the camera or memory card to your PC and use the eraser program to overwrite all your old pics (refer to your handbook or online support as some rare andobscure cameras write system files to the removable memory card, so wiping the card may corrupt the camera), if that's not possible, then delete all the pics on the camera, put the camera on the highest resolution and take pictures of your carpet, then delete, then repeat again. Sounds mad, but it works. Don't forget to delete the memory from MP3 players, games console units, digital tv boxes and tv recorders with a hard drive, as selling these on with information onmay breach intellectual copyrights. Just use the delete/erase function on the unit to stay legal. It is best practice to sell a mobile 'phone without the simcard, even if you do sell it without a sim, or with a new one, you still need to make sure the 'phone hasn't stored any of your numbers or messages in the 'phone memory, also, erase your photos' and videos. It's a good idea to reset the 'phone to 'factory settings' before you sell it, this will wipe all your downloaded ringtones, wallpapers. This applies to modern home 'phones too, as they store your numbers in their memory.Don't forget to delete your favourites, home and recently visited places from your sat-nav prior to sale too.Regards, Walter.

For anyone considering the purchase of a PVR, I would like to recommend this model.Easy set-up, watch 1 channel while you tape another (or tape 2 others, with some limits), and one touch record from the on-screen guide. There is also Picture in Picture, download via PC socket, and much more, if you want it. Say goodbye to tapes/discs, and get 80 hours of programmes stored on the hard drive for under

HOW TO STOP NIGERIAN SCAMMERS FROM BIDDING ON YOUR ITEM

Have you ever tried to sell an item on eBay, only to end up relisting it over and over, simply because of "buyers" who win the auction, only to ask you to post your valuables to Nigeria? This is particularly frustrating, especially when a lot of time and effort has been invested into creating the listing - Not to mention the listing fees lost, especially if these items are high-value goods.Just to re-instate that I have nothing against Nigeria, this guide is intended to help people guarde against any scams originating from Nigeria, using insider knowledge.Knowledge, they say is power, and in this case, knowledge is power to save time, effort and money. So, if you're thinking of selling any high-value goods of any sort ranging from mobile phones, PSPs, laptops, gaming consoles, expensive watches, TVs, palm tops, smartphones, iphonesor anything of the sort, here are a few tips you can employ :-State in your listing what countries you will post to. Somewhere in the body of your text, also state that you will report all requests to "pay by paypa1 and post to Nigeria" to the EFCC. The EFCC is an independent crimes investigation agency, set up to tackle crime in Nigeria. Unbeknown to many, they are very efficient for a Nigerian organisation and cyber criminals know exactly how efficient they are. Which is why no criminal originating from Nigeria will bother you again if you mention the magic word EFCC. It's not all talk nonetheless. You can actually raise complaints with the EFCC for investigation through their website (Just google EFCC Nigeria)Hope this helps, and happy, unwastedlisting!

Other than that no other testing has been done due to no Lampbest of my knowledge this projector is in;working order once the lamp has been replaced and as such are offering no guarantees on it.now i have a little bit of electrical knowledge and have bought four of these projectors from ebay only to find that its not the lamp thats gone its the ballast that drives the lamp. you will normally find that these sellers deal in these pjs and are often selling lamps seperate you have to ask yourself why dont thay put them together and sell for a lot more,do you know that metal halide lamps very rarely blow as they reach the end of there life they just get dimmer dimmer so ask yourself why no lamp
